Bed BugsAdult bedbugs are reddish-brown, flattened, oval, and wingless. Bedbugs have microscopic hairs that give them a banded appearance. Adults grow to 4–5 mm in length and 1.5–3 mm wide. Newly hatched nymphs are translucent, lighter in color and become browner as they moult and reach maturity. Bedbugs use pheromones and kairomones to communicate regarding nesting locations, attacks, and reproduction. The life span of bedbugs varies by species and is also dependent on feeding.

Kitchen:

  • Place all dishes and food items on a table in another room. Cover these items with a sheet or towels.
  • Vacuum any particles or small debris from inside cabinets and wipe with a damp cloth.
  • Sweep/vacuum under the stove and refrigerator if these appliances can be moved.
  • Dispose of bugs outside.

All other rooms:

  • Place any food items on a table in another room. Cover these items with a sheet or towels.
  • Vacuum any particles or small debris from shelves and floor and wipe with a damp cloth.
  • All upholstered furniture will be inspected thoroughly and if active infestation is found it will be treated as necessary.
  • All linens, drapes, and pillows should be laid out and uncluttered.
  • Vacuum cushions, cracks, carpeting, and baseboards. Once have completed this dispose of the vacuumed contents in an outdoor trash receptacle. If there is no vacuum bag, thoroughly disinfect the container.
  • Move items from inside bathroom and closets inside bathrooms. Dispose of the bags outside.
  • Vacuum any particles or small debris from shelves and floor and wipe with a damp cloth.
  • Always follow instructions on how to care for each fabric, if it cannot be placed into a dryer.

Pet care:

  • Remove pet dishes and water bowls.
  • Cover fish tanks with a damp towel and turn off the pump. Note: saltwater tanks may need to be removed from the premises as the air pumps cannot be disconnected. Discuss options for areas where saltwater tanks are present ( such as cockroach bait only) with your Tech.
  • Pets, including birds, reptiles, etc. should be removed from premises.

What to do after the service:

  • Prepare to leave the premises after the service and return when the application has dried, usually 2 to 4 hours.

Bedbug Preparation Checklist

  • Disassemble bed frames and head boards.
  • Strip the Bed(s) and launder all sheets, pillowcases, mattress pads, and blankets.
  • Remove everything from bedroom closet(s), making area accessible.
  • Remove everything from dresser drawers, nightstands, and dressing tables place in treated area nicely stacked.
  • Remove drapes and have them laundered or replaced.
  • Discard cardboard boxes, shoe boxes, paper and plastic bags, old newspapers, stacks of magazines, and similar items in infested rooms.
  • Vacuum all infested rooms. Beside the floor, also vacuum mattresses, bedsprings, couches, chairs, closets and closet shelves, shoes, inside dresser draws, and beside table drawers. Vacuum bags are to be placed in a plastic bag and discarded outside.

Important Notes:

  • Discarding of any compromised (ripped / torn) materials or heavily infested items may be required.
  • The cheesecloth on the box spring may be required to be removed for proper inspection and or application.
  • If laundering, hot water & detergent cycle + dryer must be used.
  • A clutter free environment must be provided in order to allow access for service technician to treat all of the needed areas.
  • Before removing all bagged items the client should inspect for pest activity.
  • The client should not touch or move any monitoring devise.
